There are three versions of the sign prefab, Normal, Quest, and Synced.

The Normal and Quest versions do not sync the position of the sign for people who show your avatar after you’ve placed the sign, while the Synced version does sync the position and rotation.

If you are planning on having this prefab on both the PC and Quest versions of your avatar you’ll need to use the Normal/Quest version. Simply use the Normal Version on the PC avatar and the Quest Version on the Quest avatar.

Scene Setup

Find the Sign Prefab you want to use, Normal or Synced, in the ‘RuneFox/PlaceableSign/_Prefabs/Manual’ folder and drag it onto your avatar so that it becomes a child object of the avatar.

If you need to scale the system only scale the Parent Placeable Sign Gameobject. Try not to scale any of the gameobjects inside the prefab as that may result in undefined behavior.

Right Click on the PlaceableSign Prefab and select Prefab→Unpack. We need to do this in order to drag objects out of the prefab onto your avatar’s armature later.

Setting up the Target Constraints

For the Left and Right Hand Targets move them so that the sign placeholders are aligned with your hands like in the image below.

Expand your avatar’s Armature and find the Left and Right hand bones. These are usually labbled as either Hand or Wrist. drag the Left and Right Hand Targets so that they’re children of their respective hands.

The Holster target is intended to go on the small of your back like in the image below.

If you are using quest controllers and cannot reliably reach behind your back then you may want to move this somewhere else that you can easily grab. Drag the Holster Target object so that it’s a child of the bone you want to parent it to. In the default case here, it’s parented to the Spine.

Avatar Manager 3.0 and other VRChat Things

Here we’re merging the FX Animator and Parameters of the Placeable Sign onto your Avatar using Avatars Manager 3.0. If you’ve manually added other complex assets to avatars before this part will be familiar to you.

Open up the VRLabs Avatars 3.0 Manager window by selecting it from the VRLabs dropdown.
