There are two prefabs, the Normal Version and the NonThrowable Version.

The Normal version lets you throw the Flare and it will sync the position of the Flare when thrown but uses more Parameter Memory while the NonThrowable version uses less parameter memory but does not have the ability to be thrown.

Scene Setup

Find the Manual Flare prefabs in the ‘RuneFox/Flare/_Prefabs’ folder and drag it into the scene and then onto your avatar’s hierarchy so that it becomes a child object of your avatar.

If your avatar is not at scene origin and you need to move the Prefabs find the ArmatureTarget gameobject in the Prefab and move it to where your avatar is.

If you need to scale the system, only scale the Root gameobject. Try not to scale any of the gameobjects inside the system itself.

Right Click on the Prefab and select Prefab→Unpack. We need to do this in order to drag the objects out of the prefab onto the avatar’s armature later.

Setting up the Armature Targets

Expand your avatar’s armature and navigate to the Left and Right Hand bones. These are sometimes labeled as wrist bones instead of hand bones.

Drag the Left and Right Hand Targets so that they’re children of their respective Hand bones

Right Hand Target

The right hand target, as the name suggests, goes where the right hand is. You should see a preview version of the Flare attached to the gameobject. Move the RightHandTarget and use that as a guide as you move it to your hand.

Left Hand Target

For the Left Hand Target repeat the same as the Right Hand Target

Holster Target

The holster target by default is intended to go behind your back as seen in the image to the right.

Drag it to be a child of the bone you want to parent it to, similar to the Hand Targets above.

Move it around until it looks like it’s in a good place.

Avatar Manager 3.0 and other VRChat Things

Here we’re merging the FX Animator and Parameters of the Flare onto your Avatar using Avatars Manager 3.0. If you’ve manually added other complex assets to avatars before this part will be familiar to you.

Open up the VRLabs Avatars 3.0 Manager window by selecting it from the VRLabs dropdown.
