The Manual setup is relatively simple.

Scene Setup

Find the Manual Install Magic 8 Ball prefab you want to use in the ‘RuneFox/Magic 8 Ball/Prefabs’ folder and drag it into your avatar’s heirarchy so that it becomes a child object of your avatar. The PC version has sound effects and overall better materials than the Quest Version though you can use the Quest version on both platforms.

If your avatar is not at scene origin and you need to move the Magic 8 Ball find the RetargetObjects gameobject and move it to where your avatar is.

If you need to scale the system, only scale the Root Magic 8 Ball System gameobject. Try not to scale any of the gameobjects inside the system itself.

Right Click the prefab and select Prefab→Unpack to unpack it, we need to do this in order to move objects out of the prefab and into the avatar’s armature later.

Setting up the Armature Targets

Holster Target

The holster target is intended to go behind the small of your back by default. Move the SpineTarget-Holster gameobject so that it is in that location.

Right Hand Target

The right hand target, as the name suggests, goes where the right hand is. You should see the Magic 8 Ball move when you move the RightHandTarget so use that as a guide as you move it to your hand.

Left Hand Target

For the Left Hand Target repeat the same as the Right Hand Target

Head Target

This will be where the Magic 8 Ball appears, attached to the head, when set to the Desktop Alternate Pose for use on Desktop. Make sure that it is in front of your avatar’s face so you can see it when on desktop.

Once all the Armature Targets are set up you should be good to go with uploading the avatar.

Avatar Manager 3.0 and other VRChat Things

Here we’re merging the FX Animator and Parameters of the Magic 8 Ball onto your Avatar using Avatars Manager 3.0. If you’ve manually added other complex assets to avatars before this part will be familiar to you.
